Last season was supposed to be the swan song for the legendary tight end Tony Gonzalez.  He had announced his intentions to retire from football at season's end and with the Falcons' loss in the NFC Championship, it seemed as though we had seen the last of Tony Gonzalez.  Not so fast.  Jay Glazer reported on Fox Sports earlier that the 13x Pro Bowl tight end was going to suit up for the 2013 season.

Tony Gonzalez told FOX Sports in an exclusive interview that he has informed the Atlanta Falcons he is coming back and the two sides are on the verge of a new contract that will put him back with Matt Ryan and company for one more run.

A lot of NFL fans I talked to over the course of last season seemed less than convinced that Tony Gonzalez was really going to hang them up.  Event though he announced his impending retirement, many - I included - thought there was a chance the 10x All-Pro would go for the Super Bowl one last time after Atlanta lost to San Francisco in the playoffs.  A lot of people enjoy knocking an athlete down a peg when they go back on their word, but I doubt there's many people who are disappointed the greatest tight end of all-time is coming back.

Ray Lewis got to go out with a bang by winning a Super Bowl then retiring. Tony Gonzalez will look to do the same next year.
