Mourniho's Chelsea beaten again. Messi matches Ronaldo’s goals.
Chelsea beaten again. Messi matches Ronaldo’s goals.
Chelsea have lost for the second time in the space of a week, beaten 2-1 at their home ground by Swiss team FC Basel in the Champions league first game of the group phase. A game that nearly the whole world expected Chelsea to win. Everyone except plucky Basle that is. Sensationally, club owner Roman Abramovich has gone into the Chelsea dressing room straight after the match. Abramovich is known for rashly sacking managers but surely Jose Mourinho can’t be on the firing line just yet… but this is the worst start any manager in the Abramovich era has ever sustained. They fired Roberto Di Matteo after he won the champions league in 2012, Mourinho hasn’t managed to win a group game tonight and the owner is an unpredictable billionaire. Chelsea’s London derby against midtable Fulham this Saturday in the Premier League now seems a must win for a side who have lost Two consecutive games now.
Meanwhile, the worlds best player, Lionel Messi struck Three times against Ajax in an impressive 4 nil Barcelona win. This matches Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat trick from Tuesday night, and the pair continue to play upmanship in claiming to be the worlds best player. Elsewhere Arsenal picked up a win in Marseille, and Milan ran out late winners at the San Siro against Celtic. Last years runners up Dortmund got beat at Napoli, Dortmund’s manager seemingly losing the plot and being sent to the stands in a fit of rage at conceding.
The Champions League first group games are done, and it is all the usual suspects looking the strongest : Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
