Hello once again readers! It's good to be able to write for the site again, I've missed you all, but enough with the sentiments, we have Football to discuss.
The focus today is on the match that just went final, with Arsenal beating Fulham by a score of 3-1.
Folks, first of all, I don't think anyone can dispute the fact that this match was a must-win for the Gunners. After a very disappointing off-season which saw them sign only 1 player (Sanogo) and an even more disappointing Opening Day loss, they needed to come into this game firing on all cylinders.
They did not disappoint.
Arsenal came out firing from the first whistle with the first goal coming in at 14', a close, left-footed effort from Frenchman Olivier Giroud, with the next 2 goals coming in at 41' and 68', both strikes from the ever explosive Lukas Podolski.
Despite the torrential rain that plagued Craven Cottage today, the Gunners looked several shades better than the side that lost 3-1 to Aston Villa on opening day. They did well to maintain possession, they won several corners and they kept the pressure on Fulham with a barrage of shots-on-goal.
If the Gunners can maintain the type of play they showed today throughout the rest of the 2013 campaign, and make some key signings in the transfer market, there's no reason to believe that this side can finish this season in the top 5. However, they need to stay aggressive on all fronts, this is an Arsenal team that hasn't seen Premiership glory since the 2003/2004 season.
Key Player (Arsenal): L. Podolski - The striker netted 2 goals for the Gunners today, and overall, played a great game.
Key Player (Fulham): D. Bent - The loanee from Aston Villa made his debut for the Cottagers and scored a goal in the 71st minute, though it proved to be too little, too late.
Fun fact: Darren Bent seemingly has Arsenal's number, having scored 7 times in his last 9 appearances against Arsenal.
The match was officiated by Howard Webb, and the attendance at the time of kickoff was 25,622
